Medals and Accolades
The staff are no exception to working hard and being dedicated to the academy, and hold many medals and accolades themself. The teleflorist rosebowl has been awarded several times to the staff at the flower school since 1969 when Sara-Marie Andrews senior lecturer 1st won the bowl for the highest marks in her practical exams with Society of Floristry, then academy principal Jo Richards won the exact same award in 1999 for her NDSF, it didn’t end there, as then academy principal Helen Joyce won the award for highest marks in 2015 for her level 4 HDF, and to keep the momentum running Melanie Smith lecturer did it again for the team in 2017 with her level 5 MDPF, and to top it off Sara-marie did it again for her level 5 MDPF in 2019 with highest marks in the practical.
So we have a pretty amazing team of tutors who really know how to bring the medals and awards home.
Chelsea Flower Show
Jo, Helen, and the team always seem to push the boundaries and have great success. Helen won a Silver-Gilt medal in 2019 for her Chelsea flower show entrance of producing a floral crown, this is Helens third win at the show and she is determined still to get her own personal Gold medal.
Jo entered and competed in 2019 Florist of the year at Gardeners world live in Birmingham, and surprised herself with tough competition, and after not competing for years to be placed third in the country, such an achievement for the team.
